Ex-Judicial Council Member Charged in Travel Costs Case

Ex-Judicial Council member Loreta Georgieva, whose term as part of the Council expired in December 2024, has been charged with defraud in the service.

According to the Interior Ministry’s charge, with the intent to acquire a significant property benefit, from 26 August to 15 January 2024, she didn’t present the fact that there had been changes with regards to the asset situation of her immediate family members, and didn’t timely notify the Council’s President that she wouldn’t use costs for travels from Strumica to Skopje (where her workplace was) and vice-versa.

In doing so, it is pointed out in the charge, she misled the Council into paying her travel costs amounting to around 4,700 euros. In 2022, police explained, her daughter became the owner of a flat in Skopje, but Georgieva didn’t notify the Council’s President of that.

The payments she received concern the period from September 2022 (the month after the daughter got the property) to December 2023 (when she stopped being entitled to compensation after the submission of her notification on 15 January 2024). In that period, Georgieva received funds for travel costs on 15 occasions.
