Filipce Proposes Parliamentary Resolution for Country’s EU Integration

SDSM leader Venko Filipce said in an interview for Sitel that the Parliament needs to adopt a resolution that defines the positions and the red lines of North Macedonia when it comes to the integration in the EU, and that if Bulgaria once again obstructs the country’s integration, official Skopje should cease the negotiations with Sofia.

“Let’s adopt a joint resolution in Parliament, in which we will outline our red lines. And if a new veto happens, we should halt our negotiations with the EU. When VMRO-DPMNE came to power, EU clearly noticed them that there is no other option for integration but the constitutional changes. I believe there is no intention to take a step forward toward European integration. The reason we accepted the French proposal is because it came ready from the European Union and it was clear to us that we wouldn’t have another chance”, Filipce said.

PM and VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski rejected Filipce’s proposal, saying that what the people need is precisely defined policy.

“We need to consolidate our positions, through battles with arguments, through building bridges with allies, and not with such trickeries, which we have already left in the past. I shall remind of a time when a declaration was adopted in the Parliament that the name of the country won’t be changed. SDSM MPs voted for that declaration, but then went on to organise the infamous referendum, and even though it was unsuccessful, they went on with the plans for change of the name of the state”, Mickoski said.
