Filipche: Data Centers Can Have Negative Environmental and Public Impact

SDSM leader Venko Filipche raised concerns about the environmental and public impact of planned data centers, citing potential noise, electromagnetic radiation, electricity consumption, and water use.

“What will happen to the noise around the location of these data centers? Developed countries have restricted or relocated such facilities because of enormous, unbearable noise”, Filipche said.

He also questioned whether North Macedonia has sufficient electricity capacity and whether large-scale data centers could affect regional electricity prices or increase reliance on imports. He dismissed the government’s portrayal of data centers as a development opportunity, calling it “another spin and defocus” by PM Hristijan Mickoski.
