Five Candidates in Race for Judicial Council Member

A former mayoral candidate, two former judges, and a former member of the Council of Prosecutors are among the five candidates for a member of the Judicial Council. On Thursday, at a public debate at Parliament, they presented their work plans.

Notary and former judge Sebaedin Dauti, who was a VLEN mayoral candidate in Gostivar last year, said he was never a party member and had a good relationship with all parties.

Fadil Xhelili, the Government’s trustee in Gostivar after last year’s unsuccessful local polls, too, said he had friends in all parties. He worked as a judge in Gostivar for six years, but faced disciplinary proceedings from the Council, so he decided to leave the position of judge himself.

“You don’t know me, but I was unyielding and I did not allow them to act, but rather I went to the Judicial Council and manfully resigned”, he said, adding that he had done so because there had been no stains with regards to him profession-wise nobody could play with him. Judicial independence and praise for the new Law on Judicial Council were a central theme for all candidates.

“I cannot say that the trust of 2% will be 100%, but at least let’s pass the half, let at least half of citizens have trust”, candidate Sejfula Osmani said.

Candidate Feuzi Xhaferi said MPs shouldn’t be held hostage by the orders from parties when it came to voting in the frames of the competition. Ex-Council of Prosecutors member Arber Isaku said he would be committed to objectivity and well-argued decisions in promoting judges.
