Food Agency and Mayor Gjorgjievski: Skopje Drinking Water Safe

The Food and Veterinary Agency said on Wednesday it vehemently denied the misinformation that water from the Skopje water supply network was unsafe for drinking due to the alleged presence of E. coli.

“Citizens should not fear. Water from the city water supply in Skopje is safe for drinking and use”, the Agency pointed out, adding that it hadn’t received up to that point any notification from the Skopje-based Water Supply Public Enterprise regarding an unsatisfactory laboratory test result of drinking water based on which a ban on its use would be issued.

Skopje Mayor Gjorgjievski, too, reacted. According to him, the news that drinking water in Skopje is unsafe, which began spreading massively in the morning, is an organized attack by, as he said, “the opposition in general”, to spread hysteria, panic, and fear among citizens in Skopje, which, as he added, is “tantamount to a terrorist attack”.
