Foreign Ministry Summons Bulgarian Ambassador Radukov over Flag Case

North Macedonia’s Foreign Ministry summoned on Monday Bulgaria’s Ambassador, Zhelyazko Radukov, over the absence of the flag of North Macedonia during President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova’s visit to Sofia.

As the institution said, concern was expressed over the deviation from agreed-upon protocol regarding the taking of photos of Siljanovska Davkova and her Bulgarian counterpart, Rumen Radev, while, additionally, an explanation was sought.

“In the conversation with the Bulgarian Ambassador, it was highlighted that the two Presidents’ meeting and joint lunch had taken place in a friendly atmosphere. Additionally, it was indicated to Ambassador Radukov that the Ministry had been unpleasantly surprised by the last statement by Ambassador Angel Dimitrov, head of the Bulgarian team within the History Commission, made in the Ofanziva with Lyubomir Ognyanov (Offensive with Lyubomir Ognyanov) show on NOVA Vesti (NOVA Newscast).

The statement, fundamentally, violates the principle that an expert commission’s chair shouldn’t give political statements about a neighbouring country’s government that is elected legitimately. We consider this statement to be improper and unexemplary,” the Ministry said.

24 TV reported the same day that Radukov had refused to take Skopje’s demarche over the matter.
