The Skopje Appellate Court has accepted Nakje Georgiev’s request to be released on parole. As a result, the former Supreme Court Judge, who is behind bars in a bribe case, will leave prison in the summer. With the decision, his sentence is further shortened, while the case has become legally effective.
Georgiev, who was initially supposed to remain in prison until May 2027, will serve a total of two years and two months. Following the previous decision of the Criminal Court, which foresaw his release for September of this year, the Appellate Court altered the decision and shortened his sentence by another two months.
As its arguments for accepting the appeal, the Court took into consideration his exemplary behavior in prison, his age (63 years), and his impaired health condition.
