FVA Confirms Three Positive West Nile Fever Tests from Dead Birds

Between August 24 and 27, 2026, the Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA) received more than 130 reports from citizens about dead birds.

Many were too decomposed for laboratory testing for West Nile virus, meaning not every report could result in sampling. So far, three positive laboratory results have been confirmed: two dead crows found in Skopje and one in Resen.

The FVA says it will continue monitoring the epidemiological situation and assessing the risk of West Nile virus infections.
