Procedural blockades in the Parliament will not be a reason to call early parliamentary elections, Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi said on Monday.
Gashi said laws currently awaiting approval, including those requiring support under the Badinter principle from MPs representing non-majority communities, will be put on the agenda at upcoming parliamentary sessions. The laws will then be decided according to parliamentary rules of procedure.
“The blockade should not continue, because it is no longer a blockade but an abuse of the Rules of Procedure. One abuse of the rules should not lead to early elections, although that is ultimately a political decision that can be made at another level”, Gashi said.
DUI and other Albanian opposition parties have used procedural objections and withheld Badinter support to block consideration of several laws concerning equitable representation, the judiciary and education.
