Hearing in Angel Samarakov Trial Held

A hearing was held on Thursday in the frames of the trial against Angel Samarakov, a former member of PM Hristijan Mickoski’s security detail. He was arrested at the start of April in Veles on suspicion of attempting to disclose an official secret in exchange for 50,000 euros.

However, Blagoja Korunovski, the witness that was supposed to back the charge, didn’t show up at Thursday’s hearing, that is, he informed, via Viber, the prosecution that he was in Serbia and waiting to undergo heart surgery.

Prosecutors presented videos made by Korunovski. The materials show him sitting in a car with another male whose face cannot be seen. Prosecutors said that that was Samarakov.

The materials show documents from a fellow police officer with whom they shared an office, Lelita Trajkovska Milenkova. In the conversation, there are talks to agree on the amount to share the official documents and minutes related to charges. However, the defence said the materials were not credible, adding that it considered them to be created by the Office.

However, prosecutors said that footage hadn’t been fabricated, stressing that Korunovski’s testimony would show the full picture. After that, the aforementioned Trajkovska Milenkova testified. She stated that she had talked to Samarakov only about work.

Regarding Korunovski, she said she didn’t know him. Korunovski was in the past convicted of murder. However, according to prosecutors, that is not a reason why he shouldn’t be trusted. He, according to the prosecution, was supposed to hand over the documents from Samarakov that were labelled ‘official secret’.
