At Monday’s hearing, Judge Gruevska Ilievska rejected Dejan Jovanov’s attorney’s request to exclude the public from the Kochani fire trial. Though the attorney said there had been death threats against her client at previous hearings, Gruevska Ilievska said it was not about the public, but rather about injured parties in the case.
The hearing also saw the defense of Jane Janchevski and Martin Georgiev submit a request for the lifting of the house arrest measure. The hearing saw the testimony of Forensic Medicine Institute Director Aleksandar Stankov.
As he said, though cyanides were found in the blood of 33 victims, alcohol was present in 49, drugs in eight, and sedatives and antidepressants in four, the main cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning, ambient suffocation, compressive suffocation, and thermal damage to the respiratory organs. For the other four people who died, the causes of death were burns and lung damage.
