Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi said that 35 years of independence have shown that statehood is built every day through strong institutions, laws, accountability, economic development, education, justice and citizens’ trust.
Speaking at a reception marking Independence Day on September 8, Gashi reflected on North Macedonia’s peaceful independence in 1991 and the challenges the country has faced since then, including political and economic crises, institutional changes and emigration.
He stressed that the country’s ethnic, linguistic, religious and cultural diversity should be viewed as a source of strength rather than an obstacle. He called for functional institutions, equal application of the law, stronger efforts against corruption and a shared European future.
Gashi also urged policies that give young people reasons to remain in the country, emphasizing jobs, education, healthcare, housing and quality of life. He concluded by calling for greater responsibility, trust and work in building the country’s future.
