Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski dismissed social media reports that a camera from the “Safe City” project in Saraj was stolen, calling them false. He stressed the project enjoys strong public support and will continue as part of European safety standards.
Toshkovski noted that even during the test phase, warnings without fines helped reduce accidents, highlighting that while Skopje recorded five traffic fatalities in 2024, none were recorded in December 2025 thanks to citizens driving more cautiously.
Meanwhile, during regular traffic checks across the country on January 3 and 4, police issued 1,402 fines, with 723 for speeding. Thirteen drivers were detained for reckless driving: 12 under the influence of alcohol and one for excessive speed outside urban areas.
Authorities also recorded 165 cases of illegal parking, 103 drivers without licenses, and 53 for drunk driving. Additional sanctions were issued against five pedestrians, 54 for not wearing seatbelts, 18 unregistered vehicles, five technically faulty cars, and five drivers with illegally tinted windows.
