In an interview with 24 TV, Italian Ambassador Palminteri was asked about the matter of guarantees on North Macedonia’s EU path regarding Bulgaria.
“This is a bit tricky because there isn’t any legal guarantee or political guarantee that can be given because the process of enlargement is with these clusters, chapters, benchmarks for its chapters. It’s a very complicated one and each step requires the unanimity from the European side, which means that any guarantee will have, I think, little value to some extent”, he pointed out, adding that the best guarantee would be a different climate of trust between North Macedonia and its neighbor.
The constitutional changes process has been pointed out as the last requirement to open negotiations, the Ambassador noted.
“Then, of course, good relations with neighbors is one of the Copenhagen criteria, so it must remain all along. I’m confident”, the Ambassador added.
