Italian FM Tajani Pays Official Visit to Skopje

Italian Deputy PM and Foreign Affairs Minister Antonio Tajani paid on Tuesday an official visit to Skopje.

Tajani was welcomed in Skopje by FM Timco Mucunski, with whom he had a bilateral meeting and a mutual press conference.

“We are working and will continue tow work to make North Macedonia a full-fledged member of the EU as soon as possible. Italy believes in and strongly supports the Western Balkans. We intend to open discussions with North Macedonia, Albania and Bulgaria over the Corridor 8 by the end of this year. The presence of North Macedonia in NATO greatly contributes to this project, as well as to making the country more attractive for Italian investors,” Tajani said.

FM Mucunski said that he emphasised the necessity of predictability in the process for EU-integration, and added that this meeting contributes to the strengthening of the relations between the two countries.

Italian FM Tajani also had a meeting with President of North Macedonia Gordana Siljanovska Davkova.

President Siljanovska Davkova emphasised the strategic importance of the EU integration for North Macedonia, and thanked for all the support Italy has provided in this process. She also expressed her expectation for the advancement of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries and the further strengthening of security cooperation within the NATO Alliance.

FM Tajani also had meetings with PM Hristijan Mickoski and PS Afrim Gashi, reaffirming to them too the strong Italian support for the integration of North Macedonia in the EU.
