Iva Mihajlova Case: 23-Year-Old Leaves North Macedonia and Enters Bulgaria

Iva Mihajlova, the 23–year-old who holds dual citizenship of North Macedonia and Bulgaria, and is currently facing trial in Kochani, has left North Macedonia and crossed the border into Bulgaria accompanied by her attorney. In a statement to Bulgarian media on Monday, she said she had opted for the step due to a deterioration in her health condition.

Mihajlova is accused of driving at a speed exceeding the maximum permitted limit on October 7 of last year and entering the oncoming traffic lane, causing a head-on collision in which one person was killed and several others, including herself, were injured.

Her defense contests those allegations through expert evaluations. Attorney Nikolay Dimitrov, who accompanied Mihajlova to Bulgaria, stated that their actions had been planned in advance.
