In response to VMRO-DPMNE leader and PM Hristijan Mickoski’s 24 September comments that there would be a so-called serial of cases on work of judges and prosecutors, as well as legal mechanisms after the elections against part of judges and prosecutors that generated corruption and didn’t deserve higher pay, the Judicial Council, on Thursday, alleged intrusion into judicial independence, adding that everybody that had indications and evidence of criminal conduct in the judiciary had a duty to report that right away, adding that not reporting that constituted a serious crime.
“The Republic of Macedonia’s Judicial Council fiercely opposes the judiciary being used for a daily-political campaign. Judges are independent and autonomous in decision-making, while every commenting from outside is considered intrusion into the judiciary. Despite working with limited human and financial resources, judges invest maximum efforts for quick and efficient justice”, it pointed out.
However, the same day, VMRO-DPMNE held a new press-conference in the frames of the aforementioned serial. That one concerned the Frosina Kulakova case.
The party’s Viktorija Andonovska stated that the judiciary that had issued a correctional measure against Vasil Jovanov instead of sending him to prison in the narcotics case was responsible for Kulakova’s death, as a result of the traffic accident on Partizanski Odredi Boulevard on 29 January of this year.
“The judiciary must be changing. Changes are not an option, they’re a must. And they will happen”, she noted.
