Chief Public Prosecutor Ljupco Kocevski has tasked all public prosecutors with urgently prioritising action on cases concerning corruption and ones of particular public interest.
As the Chief Office said in a press-release on Tuesday, the cases will be prioritised also with regards to action by the public offices’ investigative centres, while all prosecutors working on such processes have been tasked with urgently updating them with regards to the check of taken activities, already issued orders and requests, and answers received from relevant organs and institutions.
If no answer or proper data has come from relevant instantons and organs to issued orders and requests, urgent calls for action will be sent. As a result, the Office explained, Kocevski, in the frames of his competences, which are of organisational nature and don’t touch upon action by prosecutors on cases, is taking steps for a “serious reorganisation” of his institution’s forces enabling more efficient criminal prosecution of perpetrators of crimes, especially those related to financial crime and corruption.
Prosecutors part of basic public prosecutor’s offices have 10 working days, following the adoption of Kocevski’s guidelines, to hold an expert collegium meeting with all prosecutors part of basic office at which they will consider the scope of work of an office in question regarding corruption cases in terms of number of processes, submitters, taken activities, and active issued orders, it was added in the press-release by the Office, which stressed that there would also be analyses of challenges facing action on such cases, as well as proposals to overcome them, aiming at more efficient criminal prosecution.
Prosecutors part of higher prosecutor’s offices, too, have 10 working days, following the adoption of Kocevski’s guidelines, to hold an expert collegium meeting in order to consider the scope of work in corruption cases, challenges facing action on them in the second instance, and proposals to overcome them, once again, aiming at more efficient criminal prosecution. Reports on all activities will be filed to Kocevski.
