Kriva Palanka Mayor Sashko Mitovski believes that in a region that traditionally lives and develops from mining, an investment like the antimony project could represent an opportunity for the economic revival of the city.
“This investment should be seriously considered, with a thorough analysis of all possible consequences and benefits. If it is confirmed that this is one of the largest antimony deposits in the world, it may open up significant prospects for the economic development of Kriva Palanka”, he told DW Macedonian.
According to the Mayor, however, the obligation of the local self-government unit is to simultaneously protect the environment and public health. For now, in his view, there is not enough information about the production process and the technology that will be used.
“This, at this moment, is not a question for a referendum”, Mitovski underlined.
