Latest on Skopje and Centar Mayoral Race

For the second round of the Skopje mayoral race, Levica is asking for support for its candidate, Amar Mecinovic, from voters of SDSM and independent candidates. In the first round, Mecinovic won 30,665 votes, whereas VMRO-DPMNE’s candidate, Orce Gjorgjievski, was supported by 91,663 voters.

Levica has also said it will request criminal accountability for Media Agency members, saying the institution is biased from a partisan standpoint and is attempting to censor its candidate, that is, that it has been left without the opportunity for paid political advertising in the election race. On Tuesday, Mecinovic stated that Skopje had woken up.

“In the second round, we will turn hope into reality”, he stressed.

The Levica candidate also invited Gjorgjievski to a televised debate “on neutral ground”, that is, as he said, in the presence of all TV stations in Skopje’s City Park.

The same day, Gjorgjievski, on his part, stated that he’d accepted Kanal 5’s invitation to a televised debate between the two candidates. Regarding his programme, the VMRO-DPMNE candidate again stated that solving waste issues, around 100 new buses in public transport, and completion of already started projects were his top priorities.

In the Centar mayoral race, SDSM’s candidate, Goran Gerasimovski, who will face ZNAM’s Miroslav Labudovic in the second round, stated he was convinced he would win because citizens had recognised the concept of honest work.

On the other hand, Labudovic said the starting result of the second half would be 0:0.

“Now, we need to be even more united and determined in order to show the people of Centar deserve genuine local authorities that will be on the side of citizens”, he emphasised.
