MEP Kovatchev Expects Amendment to Be Supported by Majority at EP

Bulgarian MEP Andrey Kovatchev has said he expects the amendment to Rapporteur Thomas Waitz’s draft-report asking for all references about the Macedonian identity and language to be removed to be supported by the majority at the EP’s plenary session next week.

According to him, such topics lead towards disunity and open Pandora’s box, which, he believes, is confirmed by the “constant statements” of VMRO-DPMNE and Hristijan Mickoski on the centuries-old Macedonian identity and language.

The MEP also points out that the unhidden goal of the authorities in North Macedonia’s goal was, on the eve of the local elections, to show some incredible win over Bulgaria and, through that, explain why they would make “some cosmetic changes to the Constitution and partly include Bulgarians in it”.
