Mexhiti Reacts to Mickoski’s Response to Comments on 2001 Conflict

1st Deputy PM Izet Mexhiti has voiced a stand on PM Hristijan Mickoski’s stand on the former’s comments about the 2001 conflict. First, Mexhiti said that the 2001 conflict caused by the NLA had been just and pure. Then, Mickoski stated that ambush killings couldn’t be considered just and honest war.

Now, Mexhiti, for Kanal 5, says that though he and the PM have a different view on the conflict, they agree that they should look towards the future. The 1st Deputy PM agrees that certain opposition parties are turning to interethnic tensions because they lack an offer for citizens. DUI, too, has reacted to Mickoski’s comments.

“It’s paradoxical that the PM is talking about a ‘non-return to 2001’ while his everyday practice of governance represents going back in time: towards discrimination, outvoting, exclusion and violation of rights of Albanians and other communities. Reminding about the 2001 conflict is not an ‘old topic’, but rather a reminder of the price citizens paid for equality and for the Ohrid [Framework] Agreement that is today openly violated by the current government”, Ali Ahmeti’s party stresses.
