Mickoski: Blocking Laws in Parliament Cannot Trigger Snap Elections

PM Hristijan Mickoski said Tuesday that DUI’s blocking of laws requiring a Badinter majority cannot trigger early parliamentary elections, arguing that the government has a stable majority and that there is no political crisis.

“No. I do not see a crisis. We have a stable majority. I do not think that represents any kind of crisis”, Mickoski said.

DUI used procedural objections to block the adoption of legislation in Parliament before the summer recess. Although debate had concluded on several bills requiring a Badinter majority, meaning support from lawmakers representing non-majority ethnic communities, they were not put to a vote. Among the legislation affected was the Fair Representation Law, which concerns the equitable representation of ethnic communities in state institutions.
