Mickoski Claims There’s Political Consensus over Electoral Code

PM and VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski has claimed there’s political consensus related to the Electoral Code. On Thursday, he commented on reactions to some NGOs over the threshold for independent candidates.

“In Germany, for the process to become part of the Bundestag, signatures are required from 5% of voters. In other countries, that level is 3%, 4%, and more. We’re analysing messages and adopting best decisions for citizens, not for individuals or NGOs”, the PM noted.

On the other hand, citizen associations have cited different European practices.

“These draft-changes aim to erase independent candidates from the political map. In the majority of countries in Europe, 200 signatures are required for an independent candidacy. In Tetovo, 800 are required”, Elmedina Abdulahi of the Podobro za Tetovo (Better for Tetovo), an association based in that city, stated.
