Mickoski, Gjorgjievski Test City Train Line Zelenikovo-Skopje

PM Hristijan Mickoski and Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski bought the first tickets for the newly launched train service between Zelenikovo and Skopje, completing the 25-kilometer trip in about 25 minutes on a fully reconstructed rail line. A one-way ticket costs MKD 40, while a round trip is MKD 70.

The service, officially launched Wednesday, will operate eight times a day in both directions and is expected to help reduce traffic congestion and pollution, Mickoski said. Officials urged passengers and drivers to respect railway crossing signals after reports of people crossing while barriers are down.

The Zelenikovo route is the first phase of Skopje’s planned urban rail project. Two additional lines, linking Volkovo with Skopje and Miladinovci with the city, are expected to be completed by early 2028. The city is also preparing to modernize public transportation, with 100 new buses expected to arrive soon, while a tender for a bus rapid transit operator is also planned.
