In Brussels, on Tuesday, PM Hristijan Mickoski met with the new Enlargement Commissioner, Marta Kos.
“We discussed Macedonia’s strategic interest regarding EU enlargement and the readiness of the country to succeed on the path towards the EU. We’re ready to discuss everything that will be principled and to the benefit of our country and in the interest of all citizens,” he said on social media.
In Brussels, the PM also met the new President of the European Council, Antonio Costa. After the two meetings, Mickoski said the government remained focused on reforms to provide better living conditions for citizens.
“Certainly, full-fledged membership of our Macedonia in the EU remains our main goal,” the PM stressed.
Both meetings were held in an exceptionally friendly, cordial, and constructive atmosphere, he assessed.
“We discussed everything we have so far gone through as a challenge in the past, everything we needed to renounce and did so in the name of European values. However, at the same time, we reaffirmed our stands that we don’t accept ultimatums, that we’re ready to discuss as much as necessary to find a way to open the first cluster, swiftly go through that process of negotiations, and become an EU member,” Mickoski noted.
Also in Brussels, the same day, Foreign Minister Mucunski met with Slovenian MEP Tanja Fajon, who said her country would try to help North Macedonia fulfil its obligations to meet EU membership conditions.
