Milosavljevic: Disinformation Comes from Several Countries

Marko Milosavljevic, Professor at University of Ljubljana, who participated in the Eurothink conference on improving media education, says for Telma foreign disinformation comes from several countries, such as Russia and China.

“They’re very active in the Western Balkans, but also in the whole of Europe and the world”, he stresses.

When it comes to the spread of disinformation, Milosavljevic doesn’t believe traditional media are the main channel even though he points in that regard to their increasingly weaker financial position, but also to there being fewer and fewer journalists, which means less information can be checked.

Social media that are in the hands of the American cooperations, he says, are the second problem. Therefore, in Europe, in his view, regulations are supposed to be strengthened because self-regulation is not enough.

Bogdan Oprea, Professor at the University of Bucharest, too, believes regulations on social media should be strengthened. He calls on people not to use social media for consumption of genuine news.
