Ministers Mucunski and Petrova-Chamova Hold Meeting in Sofia

On the margins of the International Ministerial Conference on Corridor 8, held in Sofia on Thursday, Foreign Minister Mucunski held a meeting with Bulgarian counterpart Petrova-Chamova. He described the meeting as constructive and conducted in a positive spirit, while emphasizing that the positions of the two countries remained significantly distant.

Regarding European integration, Mucunski stated that a high degree of mistrust existed between the two countries, which, from North Macedonia’s perspective, was tied to the predictability of the process and past experience with bilateral demands.

After the meeting, Petrova-Chamova said her country supported North Macedonia’s European perspective, but expected the fulfillment of commitments undertaken under the 2022 European consensus, including constitutional changes. She characterized the discussion with Mucunski as constructive, noting that she had asked North Macedonia to clarify the timeframe within which it planned to fulfill its commitments.

The Bulgarian Minister emphasized that Sofia had no additional demands beyond what had been agreed upon in 2022.
