New Reactions to Bill to Abolish Przhino Format of Government

On Thursday, Government Spokesperson Marija Miteva reacted to SDSM leader Filipche’s conditions in relation to the Przhino format of government and comments that his party would withdraw from the working group for the Electoral Code. She described it as a “politically immature move”.

In Parliament, there were fierce arguments between MPs. VMRO-DPMNE’s Milosohski stated SDSM and its leadership were looking for an alibi for future electoral defeats.

On the other hand, the DUI-led European Front submitted numerous amendments to the Law on Government. At the start of the Committee on Political System’s session, its MPs remarked that there were no conditions for holding a session. However, once it proceeded, they explained the amendments and expressed doubt about the ruling majority’s intentions. They asked whether the Government had consulted the EU and the U.S. before the introduction of the proposals.

“Our strategic partners have been consulted over such a law. And if you don’t believe us, go ahead, you have the opportunity to write a letter. You don’t need 100-200, you just need two to the embassies here to see if that is the case”, Minister of Public Administration Minchev said.

Following the Committee on Political System, the amendments to the Law on Government also have to pass the filter of the Legislative Committee.

A meeting was scheduled for that day after the other Committee’s session, but the Parliamentary website already has an announcement that it will nevertheless be held on Friday (April 24). In addition to the amendments for abolishing the Przhino format government, the draft legal changes concerning citizenship of MPs are also before the Committee.
