New Reactions to Criminal Code Changes

The reactions to the Criminal Code changes have continued.

On Thursday, the Head of the EU Delegation, Ambassador David Geer, reiterated the stand of the European Commission, which had expressed concern.

Dutch Ambassador Dirk Jan Kop joined the stand. As he added, the Dutch Embassy is following very closely the latest developments in relation to the changes. However, the previous day, PM Dimitar Kovacevski had claimed the changes had been made in consultation with the EU.

Over the need for the changes, he levelled accusations at the creator of the Criminal Code, whom he referred to as “Darth Vader”. However, he didn’t want to reveal that person’s name on Thursday either.

The same day, VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski, too, reiterated his stand that the members of the current ruling coalition are preparing themselves to become part of the opposition and want to be pardoned for the crimes committed by them since 2017.
