PM Hristijan Mickoski said there are currently no new criteria for EU candidate countries seeking membership, while describing recent remarks by European Commissioner Marta Kos as taken out of context and not specifically referring to North Macedonia.
“The country’s foreign and security policies are fully aligned with those of the European Union and the government continues to implement its reform agenda. There are no new criteria for EU accession at the moment”, Mickoski said, adding that several challenges lie ahead for both North Macedonia and the EU.
He said the government would continue working on reforms and fulfilling its obligations outside bilateral conditions. Mickoski also expressed confidence that North Macedonia would maintain its strong performance in upcoming EU assessments, noting that the country had received a positive evaluation in the December report.
