North Macedonia, Greece, Albania Unite for UNESCO Prespa Nomination

North Macedonia, Greece, and Albania on Saturday signed a joint declaration to nominate the Prespa region for UNESCO’s World Heritage List, aiming to highlight it as a shared natural and cultural space beyond borders.

Culture ministers Sedat Sulejmani, Greek counterpart Lina Mendoni, and Albania’s Blendi Gonxha stressed that the nomination should establish a sustainable management model benefiting local communities. Existing projects, including EU supported ACT4PRESPA and conservation efforts in Kurbinovo and Mal Grad, provide a basis for deeper cooperation.

EU and UNESCO representatives attended the trilateral meeting, which underscored the importance of turning collaboration into concrete measures for heritage protection and regional development.
