In The Hague, on Tuesday, Foreign Minister Timco Mucunski said his country would agree to the long-term plan of NATO to increase the level of defence investment to 5% of GDP in the next 10 years.
Previously, at a press-conference ahead of the NATO Summit in the Dutch city, Secretary-General Mark Rutte had said there were significant and growing challenges to security and talked about the so-called 5% issue.
“We meet at a truly historic moment, with significant and growing challenges to our security. As the world becomes more dangerous, Allied leaders will take bold decisions to strengthen our collective defense, making NATO a stronger, a fairer and a more lethal Alliance. This will include a major new defense investment plan, raising the benchmark for defence investment to 5% of GDP”, the NATO Secretary General pointed out.
