Panchevski Says He will not Formally File Charge, Expects Institutions to Act

Former Criminal Court President Panchevski, who received on Tuesday a negative opinion from the Council of Public Prosecutors in the race for Prosecutor General, has explained that he will not formally file a criminal charge, i.e. he expects institutions to act.

Asked on Wednesday by Sloboden Pechat about the matter, he stated institutions of the system should arrest themselves on the basis of the rumor system. In that regard, he was asked whether he was referring to the charge he’d mentioned in his Facebook post.

“In an era of electronic communications and broad authorizations of the Interior Ministry and Prosecutor’s Office, I think your question is inappropriate”, he noted.

In the Facebook post, over the issue of his length of service, he’d said Council members had abused official position and overstepped authority. Panchevski called on the Government to abolish the procedure, saying the Council could only implement laws and didn’t have the competence to carry out authentic interpretation processes in that area.

Though the Council’s stand is that a candidate has to have active length of service until the day of the application, Panchevski points out that the law doesn’t require that.
