Panel Highlights EU-North Macedonia Partnership in New Geopolitical Reality

The Institute for Democracy “Societas Civilis” Skopje and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation on Thursday hosted a panel discussion on EU-North Macedonia relations amid a changing geopolitical landscape, bringing together senior officials, diplomats and experts.

Speaking at the event, German Ambassador Petra Drexler and EU Ambassador Michalis Rokas stressed that stronger connectivity across the Western Balkans is essential for resilience, security and a more stable Europe, while reaffirming the EU’s continued financial and political support for North Macedonia.

Moreover, Ambassador Rokas said the EU has already allocated nearly EUR 65 million to the country through the European Peace Facility and is working to secure an additional EUR 40 million to strengthen North Macedonia’s military capabilities and collective security within NATO. He also highlighted billions of euros in EU support for infrastructure, connectivity and development projects.

Deputy PM and Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski highlighted the strategic importance of developing Pan-European Corridors 8 and 10, describing them as key drivers of economic growth, regional connectivity and long-term political stability.

The discussion focused on the role of EU cooperation in strengthening the country’s resilience, infrastructure and European integration path amid growing geopolitical challenges.
