Parliament Adopts Law on 500-Million-Euro Loan from Hungary

With 65 votes in favour and 15 against, MPs adopted on Tuesday the law concerning the 500-million-euro loan from Hungary.

Though the plenary session debate didn’t last long, the opposition’s representatives slammed the process again, describing it as non-transparent and stressing that North Macedonia would face serious political and economic consequences.

On the other hand, the ruling majority again emphasised that the money would be used to benefit citizens and develop the business sector. SDSM MP Fatmir Bytyqi asked who had given VMRO-DPMNE the mandate to negotiate during the pre-election period.

“Who was the one negotiating? Was it the current party leader [Hristijan Mickoski] or the former one [Nikola Gruevski]? That’s transparency, my fellow MP. Tell the public,” he stressed. According to the plan, 50% of the funds will be used to finance infrastructure projects in municipalities, while the other half will be used as a loan for the business sector.
