The Parliament of North Macedonia adopted with 84 votes in favor the initiative filed by the ruling majority of VMRO-DPMNE, VLEN and ZNAM for establishment of an Inquiry Committee that will look into mass tragedies, like the Kochani nightclub fire, that have occurred in the country over the past years.
VMRO-DPMNE MP Antonio Miloshoski explained that the committee will look into the Kochani fire, as well as the Laskarci bus accident, the Besa Trans bus accident, the Tetovo modular hospital fire, and will determine whether there is institutional responsibility over the conditions that have led to these tragedies.
SDSM leader and MP Venko Filipche on the other hand, insist on a separate inquiry committee for the Kochani tragedy.
“We must be responsible before the state and the public, but especially before the relatives of the people who died or were injured at the Pulse nightclub fire in Kochani, for it was their demand for an inquiry committee to be formed about this case”, Filipche said.
However, the MPs from the ruling majority did not support in the Parliament the initiative of SDSM for a separate committee for the Kochani accident only, prompting a reaction from SDSM MP Oliver Spasovski.
“The ruling majority showed utter lack of empathy or understanding for the demands of the families of the victims of the Kochani fire. Under a party directive, we are back to the times of protests and counter-protests, plenums and counter-plenums etc. Once again, the ruling alliance humiliated and disappointed the relatives of the victims and the injured of the Kochani tragedy”, Spasovski said.
