Parties’ Reactions to Law on Languages Issue Continue

DUI’s so-called watch outside the Constitutional Court has ended. The party’s representatives reiterated the stand that Albanians will reject every decision that will represent a continuation of the process to abolish the Law on Languages.

Leader Ali Ahmeti spoke only in Albanian, while Bujar Osmani said the absence of the three Judges from the other ethnic communities, Osman Kadriu, Naser Ajdari, and Fatmir Skender had been a sufficient signal for the session to be stopped right away.

“Such monoethnic meetings or sessions were always an announcement about bad periods in multiethnic countries. The only just decision the Court should have made was a rejection of all 13 initiatives so that this matter was closed”, Osmani noted.

On the other hand, VLEN again said Ali Ahmeti’s party was only trying to protect its crimes, while VMRO-DPMNE stated that DUI’s leadership had known nothing would happen at the session and intentionally created an atmosphere of ethnic tensions. When it comes to SDSM, it said the Court had to make substantiated decisions without pressures and political influences. Every change, it added, should be in accordance with the Venice Commission’s recommendations.
