People’s Uprising Against Fascism Day Marked

People’s Uprising Against Fascism Day, 11 October, was marked on Friday.

President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova addressed a solemn academy, describing 11 October as the day when the Macedonian people, without hesitation, had chosen the right side in the biggest war in history, WWII.

“Nobody liberated us. We did that ourselves, with the help of the over 110,000-strong National-Liberation Army for Macedonia. Nobody gifted the state to us,” she stressed.

According to the President, there must be no historical revisionism and relativisation of the National-Liberation Struggle, as well as of the anti-fascist one, because that would undermine the Ilinden and anti-fascist foundations on which the Macedonian state is built.

Earlier, congratulatory messages had been sent by Hristijan Mickoski, Venko Filipce.

Тhe PM said that on the 83rd anniversary of “defiance and desire for a free Macedonia”, the popular spirit of defiance and love of freedom was present and should be the driving force for changes and a better future.

The SDSM leader compared the battle in 1941 to, as he said, the ones currently facing the country and its citizens.

“Today’s battles are for a stable, integrated, and prosperous Macedonia. We can best achieve our prosperity integrated with our European allies as a full-fledged and equal EU member,” he stressed.
