Bulgaria opposes qualified majority voting in Brussels, rejects deferred implementation of constitutional changes, and refuses to discuss any concessions with North Macedonia regarding the compromise struck four years ago with the previous government.
Sofia’s unchanged positions were reiterated by Foreign Minister Petrova-Chamova, during a Q&A session of the Bulgarian Parliament.
However, in Skopje, following Petrova-Chamova’s messages and regarding her recent meeting with counterpart Mucunski, PM Mickoski expressed optimism that a way out of the deadlock existed through ongoing dialogue between the two countries. In that regard, he said that he was glad that the dialogue had begun and that international partners had been informed about that dialogue.
“That is the beauty of democracy: to talk when you hold differing views, and the art of democracy is bringing those differing views closer together to reach a compromise in the end. I expect dialogue to continue and, at a certain point, for positions to align and for us to arrive at a solution”, he underlined.
