Physical Confrontation nearly Avoided in Parliament

On Thursday, a physical confrontation would have taken place between Levica’s Dimitar Apasiev and VMRO-DPMNE MPs in Parliament had it not been for the quick reaction from fellow parliamentarians. Apasiev even threw headphones at VMRO-DPMNE MP Zorancho Jovanchev.

The incident, which saw insults and curse words used, took place during a heated discussion on the rules of the new tool from the Rules of Procedure, a Q&A session only for opposition members.

MP Recep Ismail’s question was addressed to the PM, Hristijan Mickoski, while the Coordinators of the Parliamentary Groups of Ismail’s party, Levica, and VMRO-DPMNE, Borislav Krmov and Nikola Micevski, respectively, were debating whether any Government member could be asked a question or just ones who had been previously designated, in writing.

Ismail asked why Mickoski had supported Radmila Sekerinska’s candidacy for the position of next Deputy Secretary General of NATO, considering, as he stated, he had previously accused her of employing devastating policies and particising the Defence Ministry during her term as the Minister.

The PM cited national interests, saying that regardless of political affiliation, every citizen that would proudly present the country would be supported by him for a position at any international institution.

“What her behaviour there will be is a different matter. I leave it to her personal behaviour,” he noted.

After the incident, Apasiev said his party hadn’t been afraid of VMRO-DPMNE during the “[former Security and Counterintelligence Administration Director Saso] Mijalkov era” and was not afraid now either.

Levica MP Amar Mecinovic said that though the people deserved answers, VMRO-DPMNE served curse words and violence. On the other hand, VMRO-DPMNE MP Brane Petrusevski said that Levica desired violence when there was a lack of normal discussions and arguments.

“Both the people and MPs shouldn’t fall for that,” he noted.
