PM Mickoski Adheres to Stance on Identity Concessions

Sources from Brussels have said that European Council President Costa, during his meeting in Skopje, will encourage PM Mickoski to fulfill the conditions in order to accelerate integration.

However, Mickoski said on Friday he expected a friendly atmosphere during the talks and an acceptable solution to be found to the problem with Bulgaria. The PM firmly adheres to his stance that concessions regarding identity will not be accepted, regardless of the political price.

The EU-Western Balkans Summit in Tivat, Montenegro, which will be held on 5 June, will see German Chancellor Merz reveal the full details of his plan for associative membership of Ukraine and gradual integration of the Western Balkans, according to EC sources.

Although the idea is currently unacceptable to several EU members, including Hungary and Slovakia, as well as Ukraine itself, it will be the first opportunity for Montenegro, Albania, and North Macedonia to declare their positions. The idea is not new, according to Mickoski. However, he added that he would share his stance after hearing the details in Tivat.
