PM Hristijan Mickoski arrived on Wednesday afternoon in Brussels, Belgium, where he will attend the EU-Western Balkans Summit. In Brussels, PM Mickoski met European Council President Antonio Costa, who stated that the EU is committed to bringing the Western Balkans partners closer to the EU already during the enlargement process.
“The enlargement process is and should be based on merit. Bilateralization is not a fair tool and we should avoid it when it comes to enlargement. I am personally dedicated to making efforts for overcoming bilateral issues, because we need to view enlargement as a very important geopolitical investment, not only for the Western Balkans, but for the mutual interests of all 27 EU members too.
This is why we need to do our best to accelerate the enlargement process, because the Western Balkans belong in the EU”, Costa said, adding that the Summit also saw the adoption of a Declaration which confirms the perspectives for integration of the Western Balkans in the EU.
In Brussels, PM Mickoski also had bilateral meeting with the new High Representative of the EU for Security and Foreign Policy Kaja Kallas, discussing with her possibilities for unblocking of the process for EU-integration of North Macedonia.
