PM Mickoski Reiterates Stands on EU Path and Environment Minister Post

Despite the EC’s Report on North Macedonia and comments by Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos regarding the condition of constitutional changes on the EU path, PM Hristijan Mickoski has again stated that nobody must expect and it’s not fair for anybody to expect that the changes will be made if Bulgaria doesn’t demonstrate understanding and will.

However, as he said on Friday, his cabinet wants for there to be dialogue and is always ready for talks. The PM also stated that when senior representatives of the government signed agreements on major projects with Bulgaria, such as the one on the railway tunnel, that sent a message that the countries were good neighbours.

Regarding Bekim Sali, who will succeed Izet Mexhiti as 1st Deputy PM, Mickoski again noted that he had a positive opinion on him.

“So far, there’ve been no talks with VLEN over the position of Environment Minister”, Mickoski nonetheless added, stressing that he would have final say.

Regarding Gostivar, Centar Zupa, Mavrovo i Rostuse, and Vrapciste, where there will be re-run election processes, the PM stated that he would appoint trustees of the Government.

The same day, however, LDP stated that it would submit draft-changes to the Electoral Code preventing the trustees that would be appointed from running in mayoral races when the repeat election processes would be organised.

“This aims to ensure fair and just mayoral races”, party leader Monika Zajkova stressed.
