Prosecutor Kolarevikj Explains Decision and Process Related to Mazut Case

“I, as the relevant Prosecutor of the investigation, closed the case”, Prosecutor Katerina Kolarevikj of the Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecution Organized Crime and Corruption said on Tuesday regarding the Mazut case.

Previously, Prosecutor General Saveski had confirmed for Fokus that his Office had not been asked for an opinion on closing the investigation. On the other hand, Kolarevikj, explained that Saveski had been personally informed about the investigation’s epilogue.

Later that day, Kolarevikj’s Office said only the financial part of the investigation had been closed, i.e., the investigation into the ecological aspect was still ongoing.

Reacting to the developments in the case, VMRO-DPMNE’s Antonijo Miloshoski said the Chief of the Office, Islam Abazi, had acted under political influence and that the decision freed individuals close to parties from the former government from accountability. However, Abazi refuted the allegations.
