Prosecutors React to Constitutional Court’s ‘Inaction’ in Salaries Case

The Council of Public Prosecutors, the Prosecutor General’s Office, and the Association of Public Prosecutors have reacted to what they believe to be inaction by the Constitutional Court upon the submitted initiatives for assessing the constitutionality of the provisions of the changes to the Law on Salaries. Said provisions reduced the calculation coefficients for public prosecutors for the third time.

According to their letter, the “inaction” has already created a serious disparity in status between public prosecutors and judges, which directly affects the constitutionally guaranteed independence of the Office as a state body.

They say they expect the Court, as the guardian of constitutionality and legality, to provide efficient and timely constitutional-judicial protection for the principle of separation of powers, the rule of law, and the constitutionally guaranteed independence of the Office.
