A 43-year-old was shot on Tuesday in Kumanovo. Telma was among the first media to report that the person in question was Zekirja Shaini, a pulmonologist employed by the Pulmonology Clinic in Skopje, who was also the carrier of DUI’s list of Council seat candidates in Lipkovo.
Kumanovo Hospital sources confirmed for the TV station that the person had been transferred to the Clinical Centre in the capital. According to police’s initial information, two people shot the person while he was driving his car on 11 Oktomvri Street.
Citing unofficial information, TV21 reported Shaini had suffered non-life-threatening injuries. In another report later that day, Telma said Shaini had suffered leg injuries.
Also later that day, TV21 posted CCTV footage of the attack. According to the video material, despite police’s initial information, there was only one attacker. Prosecutors said the same day the attacker was at large.
“Preliminary indications aren’t pointing to political motives behind the armed incident, but all circumstances are being checked”, the Prosecutor’s Office said.
The Health Ministry, which condemned the attack on the pulmonologist, confirmed Shaini’s condition was stable and he was recovering.
