“We cannot develop the country on the basis of fake data,” PM Hristijan Mickoski said on Friday regarding the Constitutional Court’s decision on the 2021 census methodology.
The PM reaffirmed the stand on an extraordinary census process in 2026, by including the diaspora as a single electoral district. According to Deputy PM for Good Governance Arben Fetai, the 2021 census was unlawful.
“DUI, in cooperation with SDSM, decided for the methodology to be in contradiction with the Constitution and falsely claimed Eurostat had asked for that”, he stressed.
Fetai believes that then-State Statistics Office Director Apostol Simovski should be held criminally accountable. Mickoski, too, expects criminal accountability, but also political accountability. On the other hand, DUI fiercely criticised the “latest attempts to delegitimize” the 2021 census process.
