On Monday, Levica welcomed President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova’s decision not to sign the decree for promulgation of the Law on Protection of Children and called on the Government to give up on the changes.
On the other hand, VLEN’s stand is that her decision was motivated by daily politics and made under pressure from both Dimitar Apasiev’s party and SDSM. Minister of Social Policy, Demographics, and Youth Fatmir Limani, who’s part of the coalition, asked how the procedure would end, said certificates for ethnic Albanians would be in Albanian. On Tuesday, the President commented on the reactions.
“I have never intended to use a veto to offend somebody’s language, nor will I ever do such a thing”, she said, adding that she hadn’t been guided by party advice.
Siljanovska Davkova again said she had the duty to respect the Constitution and Laws. Tuesday also saw PM Hristijan Mickoski confirm that the Government would do further work on the text and submit it to Parliament within the legal deadlines. As he explained, Articles 9 and 10 will be corrected.
“They will be in accordance with the Constitution and Languages Law. I expect they will be successfully adopted. I think that was done a little clumsily. That’s a formulation that will be overcome”, he noted.
