Reactions to Postponement on Vote on MEP Waitz’s Draft-Report

Regarding the postponement of the vote on Rapporteur Thomas Waitz’s draft-report on North Macedonia within the EP’s Foreign Affairs Committee (AFET), Spanish MEP Nacho Sanchez Amor stated on Wednesday that his Group of Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats supported the proposal only because it had come from the proponent of the text, expressing gratitude in that regard to all those involved in the preparation of the document for, as he noted, the excellent result.

“However, we cannot accept and we reject the unpleasant accusations and insinuations that were being used to justify the requests to postpone coming from other groups. There is no need to accuse someone in order to request a normal thing such as postponement. We deeply regret the words and accusations levelled at Waitz and other negotiators”, he pointed out.

The Spanish MEP called for unprecedented things that, as he underlined, will allow outside actors to interfere and “create situations” within the EP not to be done.

Romanian MEP Dan Barna, too, expressed support for MEP Waitz’s proposal, saying he condemned the campaign to which the Rapporteur had been exposed too.

“This is unacceptable and shouldn’t be repeated”, he pointed out.

Bulgarian MEP Ivaylo Valchev described Rapporteur Wait’z postponement as a timely, wise, and responsible decision.
